(Independent Schools’ Inspectorate)
Stafford Preparatory School provides an excellent all round education for children between the ages of 4 and 11. (National Curriculum Years Reception - 6 inclusive).
Lessons are taught principally by specialist Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 teachers, with Stafford Grammar School staff teaching subjects such as design technology, music, ICT, P.E. and modern foreign languages in Years 5 & 6. Science is taught to the older SPS children in a fully equipped laboratory.
Admission to Stafford Prep is based on a taster day/informal assessment conducted in a small group or on an individual basis. Children spend a morning/day in school during which time they are tested in English and mathematics (Years 3 - 6 only).
Pupils in Year 6 are prepared mainly for entrance to Stafford Grammar School, but also for other selective senior schools.
During Stafford Prep’s first nine years, the children have achieved some spectacular successes on the sporting front winning over fifty trophies locally and nationally. All pupils have two weekly PE/Games sessions and these are supplemented with a full programme of extra curricular activities, both sporting and non sporting. Year 5 children go on a three day residential trip to the Kingswood Centre in Flintshire and Year 6 pupils spend a week at Towers Outdoor Education Centre in Capel Curig. There is also the opportunity to learn one of a range of musical instruments with visiting music teachers.
A new two classroom unit opened for Key Stage 1 children in September, 2012 with an initial intake of 17 pupils taught by two full time members of staff supported by a full time teaching assistant. In September, 2014 SPS opened a Reception Class, enabling children to receive their complete schooling at Stafford Prep/Stafford Grammar from the age of 4 - 18.
Our aim is to give our pupils an exciting and challenging primary education which will give them an enthusiasm for learning and prepare them for life at senior school in the best possible way.
