Admissions Procedure
YEAR 3, 4, 5 & 6 ENTRY TO STAFFORD PREPARATORY SCHOOL
SEPTEMBER 2012
Following a successful entrance assessment, a place will be offered, subject to a satisfactory current school reference. The offer will be conditional upon there still being a place available in the relevant class on the day the registration documents and deposit payment are received.
For the academic year 2012-2013, there will be a maximum of twenty pupils in Year 3 and Year 4 and forty in Year 5 and Year 6 (2 classes per year group).
Children are welcome to join SPS during the current academic year subject to availability.
Entrance Process
In the first instance, parents are invited to make an appointment to visit SPS, to view the school, see the children at work and talk to the Headmaster and staff. Please telephone the Headmaster’s Secretary, Mrs Adams, to arrange a mutually convenient time.
Prospective pupils will then be invited to attend on a school day from 0915 until 1150. During the course of the morning the children will undertake an entrance assessment lasting no more than 90 minutes and will also be able to join current SPS pupils for morning break. Pupils looking to enter years 4, 5 or 6 are welcome to remain for the whole day to spend time with their year group.
The entrance assessment will consist of short tests in literacy and numeracy – these will be designed to assess each child’s potential and will be taken in a relaxed atmosphere with a teacher on hand to explain any instructions the children do not understand. Our aim is to find out what each child can do, rather than what they can’t.
Mr O’Donnell will write to parents on the day following the visit with the result of the assessment. If a place is offered, permission will be obtained to contact the pupil’s current school for a reference and registration documents will be forwarded to the parents.
There will be a charge of £25 (per child) for the assessment, payable by cash or cheque to ‘Stafford Grammar School’ on the day of the visit.
If you have any questions regarding any of the above information, please contact Mr O’Donnell, either by telephone (01785 251337) or email headmaster@staffordprep.co.uk. |
