Learning - The Academic Curriculum
The academic curriculum at Stafford Preparatory School meets all the requirements of the National Curriculum without being limited by it. English, mathematics, science, history, geography, art, design technology, information & communication technology, music, French, Spanish, German, religious education , PSHE, physical education and games.
In Reception and Years 1 - 4 pupils are taught most academic subjects by their own form teacher. In Years 5 & 6 children are taught by subject specialists including teachers from Stafford Grammar School. Specialist teaching and class sizes that never exceed twenty pupils ensure high academic standards whilst catering for the needs of each individual child. Within this structure, the boys and girls feel valued and yet challenged. Homework of 30 minutes duration is set on a daily basis, getting pupils used to working independently.
Regular testing in all subjects allows teaching staff to monitor pupil progress, with parents receiving termly and half termly effort/attainment grades as well as a full written summary of progress twice yearly. There are also two opportunities during the year for parents to meet teachers to discuss progress.
