ISA National Cricket ChampionsHaving won the ISA Midlands Kwik Cricket Trophy, the boys travelled back to Newark for the hard ball national finals. Each match over 12 overs. Our first game was against Elmhurst School from Croydon. Batting first on a difficult wicket, Elmhurst scored 78 - 8, with the Surrey junior, Patel, scoring an impressive 47. Adam Bromley took a hat trick with the first three balls of his second over: two clean bowled and a superb stumping by Chris Becker. Chris's glove work was the best I have seen from a boy at this age . Matt Inglis and Matt Dudley were the pick of the other bowlers. In reply, after the early loss of Jake Sheldon, Chris Becker and Josh Williams put on over 50 and when Josh was bowled for 18 victory was in sight. Chris was there at the end, 50 not out, to give SPS a win by 8 wickets. In the second game, against the hosts, Highfields, we didn't bowl as well, but the home team failed to take advantage of some wayward deliveries, finishing with 49 - 6 from their 12 overs. This time, Connor Hyslop and Matt Dudley opened the batting and after a tentative start, 'Big Matt' was soon despatching the ball to all corners of the ground. We passed the Highfields total without losing a wicket with six overs to spare. A comprehensive win by 10 wickets. (Following the win we batted on to complete our 12 overs finishing with 112-2) As the only school with a 100% record and the highest run rate per over, we were duly crowned national champions. As well as the boys mentioned above, the other team members were James Humphries, Will Proud, David Taylor and William Bucknall. |
