SPRING TERM 2012
NEWSLETTER NO 169
3rd February 2012

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to all the children involved in the Year 5 production of ‘The Snow Queen’ on Wednesday evening. It was a super show and it was evident from the audience’s applause that all the hard work had paid off. A big thank you goes to Mr Thorpe, and to all the staff members and parents who helped behind the scenes, both in the run up to the play and on the day itself.

Family Quiz
A reminder that it is the Family Quiz this evening starting at 7pm. Please enter through the doors at the opposite end of the building. Soft drinks and nibbles will be provided, but parents are welcome to bring their own drinks, (and glasses.)

Modular Building
We will be taking delivery of the new classrooms next week and there will be preparatory work carried out on Tuesday. This should not have any impact on the arrangements for arrival and departure from school at the start and end of the day.

Choir Events in March
With the newsletter the parents of choir members will find letters about two events the School Choir will be taking part in after half term. The first is ‘Celebrating Music’ at the Gatehouse Theatre in Stafford on the evening of Wednesday 7th March. The second is the Newcastle Festival on the evening of Friday 16th March.

Miss Scholes’ Kenya Trip
As some of you will know, Miss Scholes was planning to take part in a trip organised by the Girl Guides to assist girls at an academy for orphans in Kenya. A number of parents made donations before Christmas in support of the visit. Unfortunately, on Foreign Office advice, the trip has been cancelled. Miss Scholes plans to give the donations she has received to Katharine House Hospice, unless any individual parents would like their donations returned to them.

Sport Fixtures
It is a very busy week for sport next week. Details of all the fixtures listed below can be found on the school noticeboard:

Sports Results
Both the A & B teams lost in fixtures against The Old Hall at Wrekin College on Wednesday. Miss Martin was pleased with how the girls played.

Snow
A reminder that in the event of snow we will always endeavour to ensure SPS remains open. However, we fully understand if pupils are absent due to parents being unable to get the children here safely. The transport manager will make a decision with regard to school transport and whether individual routes operate during bad weather.

World Book Day – 1st March
The School Council will be organising some fun events for the children to celebrate World book Day on Thursday 1st March. Pupils will be invited to come to school dressed as a favourite character from a book they have enjoyed.

Half Term Holiday
A reminder that we break up for half term on Friday 10th February at 3.40pm returning on Monday 20th February. Effort grades will be sent home with next week’s newsletter.
